Memorial requesting presidential
investigation to receive hearing
OLYMPIA – This week, the Senate Government
Operations & Elections Committee will hold a public hearing
on
Senate Joint Memorial 8016.
The memorial – which has received national attention,
including from such outlets as Daily Kos and the Huffington
Post – would petition Congress to begin an investigation
into the activities of the president and vice president
regarding their justification for initiating the invasion of
Iraq.
Sen. Eric Oemig, D-Kirkland, is the prime sponsor
of the resolution and will testify in support of it. Also
testifying in support will be:
- Salt Lake City Mayor Ross “Rocky” Anderson, a
prominent war critic famous for organizing a massive
demonstration against President Bush’s 2005 speech
before the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Salt Lake City;
and
- Col. Mary Ann Wright, U.S. Army, retired, a former
high-ranking State Department official who resigned her
post on the eve of the invasion of Iraq as a form of
public protest.
The hearing will be held in Senate Hearing 2 of the
John A. Cherberg Building on Thursday, March 1 at 3:30 p.m,
and will be broadcast on TVW (satellite coordinates below).
