OLYMPIA —The Joint Governmental Affairs Committee of the Joint Snohomish County Chambers of Commerce has presented Sen. Steve Hobbs, D-Lake Stevens, with a 2008 Business Champion Award in recognition of his sponsorship and support of legislation to improve the business climate of Washington and Snohomish County.

Hobbs sponsored several bills during the 2008 Legislature that were supported by local Chambers of Commerce, including Senate Bill 6407 to increase the small business credit for the business and occupation tax, Senate Bill 6828 to reform excise taxation of the aerospace industry, and Senate Bill 6111 to allow local plans for generating wave and tidal energy to move forward.

The award was presented at the Joint Snohomish County Chambers “Legislative Recognition Breakfast” held at the Everett Golf & Country Club, where local business leaders gathered for the Snohomish County Business Forum & 2008 Business Champion Awards.

The Joint Snohomish County Chambers is comprised of the Everett Area Chamber of Commerce, the South Snohomish Area Chamber of Commerce and the Monroe Chamber. Every year, their Joint Governmental Affairs Committee tracks the bill sponsorship and voting record of Snohomish area legislators on issues of importance to business and economic development.
