April 2, 2008 Sen. Oemig on Northshore
School District’s Decision
OLYMPIA
– Sen. Eric Oemig, D-Kirkland, made the following
statement about Northshore School District’s decision to not
close Woodin Elementary.
I applaud the Northshore School Board’s vote Monday
to keep Woodin Elementary open.
Our community’s outcry clearly changed their
decision. The threat of a school closure clearly
motivated many to get involved.
This involvement must not wane. We had a victory this
week and Woodin Elementary will not be closed, but the
school district is still facing a massive budget
shortfall.
There will probably be deep cuts somewhere else. We
rallied behind Woodin Elementary and must continue to
stay involved to make sure other cuts do not jeopardize
our children’s education as much as closing a
neighborhood school would have.
