Statement from Sen. Paull Shin, D-Edmonds, on the efforts of Allegiant Air to bring passenger air service to Paine Field

“Commercial airplanes don’t belong at Paine Field. This is a basic quality-of-life issue for the people who live in the neighborhoods surrounding the airport. Paine Field is located in the middle of the most populated part of Snohomish County, and the increase in noise level will negatively affect thousands of families.

“Right now, we’re only talking about one airline with flights to only one city, but Allegiant Air will most definitely add many more cities and many more flights than are currently planned. More airlines are bound to follow suit.

“I will be working with county officials and other Snohomish county legislators to explore all legal options available to prevent this from happening. There have been efforts to bring passenger service to Paine Field for over 25 years, and local officials have long managed to successfully oppose them. I am hopeful we can continue to do so.”
