Official Senate Biography

Democrat: Term expires January, 2011.

Adam has served for ten years as the senator for the 37th District of Seattle. Before entering law school, he worked as a merchant seaman and as a newspaper reporter. He practiced law 32 years before retiring in 2004 to work for the Laborers Union. He was a cooperating attorney with the ACLU and is active with NARAL and Washington Conservation Voters.

Personal: His wife, Laura Gene Middaugh, is a Superior Court Judge in King County. They live in the Mount Baker neighborhood of Seattle and have a daughter, Genevieve, who lives with her husband and daughter in Oakland.
