Fraser recognized for support of the arts 9/23/2009
Sen. Karen Fraser, D-Thurston County, was honored Tuesday evening by the Washington State Arts Alliance, which named her the recipient of the 2009 Louise Miller Arts Advocacy Award. You can watch her introduction and acceptance speech below.
The award was given at the organization’s annual meeting at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts in Olympia. According to the Alliance, the award is “bestowed each year to a public official who has shown outstanding leadership in advancing the arts and arts education on a statewide or national level.”
Fraser receives honor from Hyogo Prefecture 9/8/2009
OLYMPIA - Senator Karen Fraser, D-Thurston County, recently received an “Award for Contribution to International Cooperation” from Governor Toshizo Ido, of Hyogo Prefecture, Washington’s Sister State in Japan. This award is made by the Governor only once a year on Japan’s Constitution Day to only one recipient.
Fraser: Millions of dollars in area projects will spur construction, employment 5/27/2009
OLYMPIA – The capital budget signed today by Gov. Chris Gregoire sets in motion more than $45 million in projects in and around Olympia and Thurston County.
“Each of these projects has a dual benefit,” said Sen. Karen Fraser, D-Thurston County. “They address longstanding needs, and they put people to work and get money flowing through our district at a time when we need it the most. That’s why I worked so hard to make sure they were funded.”

OLYMPIA – In a year of historic recession and massive budget cuts, Sen. Karen Fraser, D-Thurston County, still found ways to make life better for people in the 22nd Legislative District and in communities across Washington.
“The many needs across our state don’t suddenly go away just because there’s a recession,” Fraser said. “Even though much of my time is devoted to the capital budget, I still work dozens of bills throughout the legislative session to address a wide range of problems.”

Senate releases slimmed down capital budget; K-12 and jobs projects on track 4/1/2009
The Senate today released a $3.3 billion 2009-2011 capital budget aimed at funding K-12 and higher education infrastructure projects, creating jobs and building quality communities.
The budget is $700 million less than the governor's proposed budget and about $1.3 billion, or 29 percent, less than the 2007-2009 biennium.
