Legislature adjourns; Hargrove touts successes and addresses difficulties 5/1/2009

Senate promotes breaking foreign energy dependence with tax relief 4/20/2009

OLYMPIA – In the face of a slumping economy and a global recession, the Washington State Senate passed Senate Bill 6170, which will establish tax incentives for a number of renewable energy sources and related activities, including the hauling of logs, as well as creating a tax exemption on hog fuel used to produce electricity, steam, heat, or biofuel.

Hargrove worker retraining bill passes Senate 48-1 3/11/2009

OLYMPIA - On a 48-1 margin, the Washington State Senate approved Senate Bill 5809, sponsored by Sen. Jim Hargrove, D-Hoquiam, which would increase worker retraining efforts across Washington. The retraining efforts will be funded by existing sources, including the Employment Security Department and the Federal Workforce Investment Act.

Hargrove’s child welfare reform bill passes Senate 33 to 15 3/11/2009

OLYMPIA – Today the Washington State Senate passed Senate Bill 5943, sponsored by Sen. Jim Hargrove, D-Hoquiam, which will bring much needed reforms to the Child Welfare System.

“This is about improving the outcomes for children across our state,” Hargrove said. “The current system is dysfunctional, and children are paying the price.”

Hargrove budget savings bill passes Senate 2/13/2009

OLYMPIA – On a 38-8 vote, Senate Bill 5288, sponsored by Sen. Jim Hargrove, D-Hoquiam, passed the Senate today. The bill will restructure the offender monitoring programs across the state, and save taxpayers more than $38.6 million over the next two years.

Sen. Hargrove bill launches biomass initiative 2/12/2009

OLYMPIA – Commissioner of Public Lands Peter Goldmark today launched an effort to create jobs, renewable energy, and healthier forests by utilizing woody biomass in our state’s forests.

“Through this biomass initiative, DNR has an opportunity to be part of the climate change solution at the same time that we are creating jobs and improving forest health,” said Commissioner Goldmark. “This effort will help bring emerging technologies to the marketplace and help to establish another positive and sustainable use of our public’s natural resources.”
