Kauffman to attend grand opening of High Point Neighborhood Center; state dollars helped make community dream reality 11/13/2009

A room in the new $10 million Neighborhood House High Point Neighborhood Center will be named after Sen. Claudia Kauffman, who lived in the community as a small child and helped secure funding for the state-of-the-art building.

“High point is a wonderful, vibrant community,” Kauffman said. “This beautiful center is a testament to the hard work of community partners and residents. This will be a place where people can connect, learn and grow for years to come.”

Kauffman receives top award for public and community service 9/28/2009

Sen. Claudia Kauffman has been given the Governor’s Award of Excellence for her years of volunteering and her dedication to public service.

"Volunteering has been an integral part of my life since I can remember," Kauffman said. "It is part of who I am, and I think it makes me more effective in the legislature when I’m pushing for policy changes that will improve the lives of people around the state such as erasing the student achievement gap (Senate Bill 5973) or giving homeowners more options and time to negotiate with lenders (Senate Bill 5810)."

Funding announced for downtown Auburn redevelopment 9/16/2009

The city of Auburn will get $250,000 to help redevelop four downtown blocks south of City Hall into an urban village featuring commercial, office and residential uses under a new law enacted this year.

Senate Bill 5045, co-sponsored by Sen. Claudia Kauffman, D-Kent, allows local governments to create “revitalization areas” and use additional tax collections obtained from new development there to pay for sidewalks, utilities, landscaping, pedestrian bridges and the like. In effect, the new law allows growth to pay for growth.

Local office opens in Kent 8/20/2009

Sen. Claudia Kauffman opened a local office this week at 10427 SE 244th St. in Kent. Kauffman says she opened a local office because “it’s easier and more convenient for constituents to visit and call me without having to go to Olympia,” she said, “it’s a way to be closer with the people I represent when the legislature isn’t in session.”

Kauffman bill giving homeowners more time to save their home signed by governor today 4/30/2009

Gov. Chris Gregoire today signed legislation extending a helping hand to homeowners nearing foreclosure.

The bill, sponsored by Sen. Claudia Kauffman of Kent, gives those on the brink of losing their homes a 30-day extension in the foreclosure process for homes bought between 2003 and 2007 and calls for lenders to make reasonable efforts to work out a way to avoid foreclosing.
